Also, the album Great Lengths by Martyn was definitely one of my picks for last year, a piece that spans  many genres but does so very smoothly .. sometimes technoey, dubsteppy, housey, sublime.

Slight change of format, still going to be about music, but with less text and more sound.

No more gig reviews either, if I can’t be bothered reading reviews of amazing gigs I didn’t go to, then other people probably feel the same.

The reason for this wake up is to share stuff that i’m discovering and digging at the moment and not have to have the same conversation with 15 different people (not that I mind, but music speaks louder right?).

I’ll try and keep it weekly but no promises..

Unfortunately (or is it fortunately?) there is not really much of a Mo Wax presence in the realm of the digital download scene*, so i have recently turned my efforts to London record shops (vinyl junkies take note) to hunt out some old jems with much success! Last weekend I was able to pick up the CD single of Meiso (feat. Black thought and Malik B from the Roots) which features a sublime vocal rework from Dj Shadow and a luscious mix from the multi-genre overachievers 4hero.

*actually, i lied. There are a few downloads to be found on Amazon and on Beatport, but they seem to be all of the err.. shall we say less popular releases.

I also managed to score (for a pound!) the drum and bass remixes of Dj Shadow’s “What does your Soul look like? (Part 1)” , it comes with one Peshay remix and one Dj Die remix. wicked draw, i need my turntables back to listen to them.. hear that andrew??

After a long long long time.. i have spent many hours (which should have probably been spent doing something else) compiling a new mix. It turned out to be quite long so I decided to split it into 2 half hour parts which link up if you play them back to back.

I can’t actually say that I have heard too many of these albums, although I am familiar with the artists (Living in London it seems inevitable).

Personally i’m backin Burial and Radiohead.. although i’m not really sure which one I would rather won it.. I would say that Radiohead deserve it just as much as Burial does, perhaps Radiohead in recognition of their ‘long service’ and contribution to the UK and world music scene.

On a related note, the Metalheadz label has been preparing a remix album entitled ‘Recall to Mind’ remixing tracks from the ever popular Commix album which was released earlier this year..  on that you will be sure to encounter this Burial remix of ‘Be true’ (for a limited time only!), as well as many other gems from the likes of Instra:mental, Carl Craig and Matthew Justin.. it promises to be an epic outing reversing the trend of drum & bass remixes to become drum & bass remixed!
